GIS Mapping & Data Resources

Traffic Counts Portal
INTERACTIVE TRANSPORTATION DATA RESOURCE

Traffic congestion in the Corpus Christi Metropolitan area is not as much a function of population growth as the function of the increase in single occupant trips. The population of the urbanized area grew from an estimated 350,988 persons in 1990 to an estimated 380,783 persons in 2000, a growth of less than half a percent each year. However, during the same time period, the area showed an increase in drive-alone trips. Other changes, such as an increase in the number of vehicles per housing unit, increases in tourism and sprawl development are factors leading to traffic congestion.

The Corpus Christi MPO has created an interactive map of local traffic counts within the City of Corpus Christi. Traffic data is collected by the City of Corpus Christi Traffic Engineering Department.

GIS Screening Tool (GISST) Portal
INTERACTIVE TRANSPORTATION DATA RESOURCE

GISST is a system that uses GIS coverage and imposes a scoring structure on this data so that decisions can be made. The tool is an environmental assessment identification and prioritization tool developed to provide a more systematic approach to considering single media and cumulative impacts in making environmentally sound decisions. It is designed to better understand the potential importance of single and cumulative effects and to facilitate communication of technical and regulatory data with industry, the public, and other stakeholders. The scoring structure consists of criteria, using 1 as low concern or vulnerability and 5 as high concern or vulnerability, based on available data sets and expert input.

Bicycle & Pedestrian Map
MARCH 25, 2005

This map is a result of a study to provide the region with a plan for creating an environment where people could choose to bicycle or walk to their destinations and provide recreational opportunities for walking and bicycling to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle. The Plan would provide guidance for the development and implementation of an interconnected network of designated on-street bicycle facilities as well as off-roadway trails and sidewalks.
