The Future of Frieght Forum

Freight and its impact on the Coastal Bend, Texas, and the nation attracted more than 80 people to The Future of Freight Forum held February 12-13 at the Holiday Inn-Emerald Beach in Corpus Christi.
OOTransportation, shipping, and trade experts from across the nation presented information on a wide range of topics impacting trade, including intermodal trends, "green" freight, new economic realities, trade with Mexico and Latin America, the impact of the Panama Canal expansion, and rail, ship, and truck freight.
OOMajor topics of discussion included:

  • logistical trends, inland intermodal infrastructure requirements, planned development, and the impact of China on future trade;
  • emerging technologies that can move freight more efficiently, relieve congestion, and emit low amounts of carbon while using financially feasible methods;
  • how America can remain a dominant economic power in the face of dynamic transportation and economic growth policies in China, India, and other countries;
  • the Mexico-Texas Trade Corridor Consortium and its role in creating manufacturing opportunities for the region;
  • the universal freight shuttle concept and its potential for increasing the efficiency of freight movement and relieving congestion on U.S. roadways;
  • opportunities for the Port of Corpus Christi to capitalize on expansion of the Panama Canal, and;
  • the impact of trucking freight on the Texas economy and environment.
