Functional
Classification Maps |
|
| |
|
Functional
classification is the grouping of highways, roads and streets by the character
of service they provide and was developed for transportation planning purposes.
Basic to this process is the recognition that individual routes do not serve
travel independently in any major way. Rather, most travel involves movement
through a network of roads. Comprehensive transportation planning, an integral
part of total economic and social development, uses functional classification to
determine how travel can be channelized within the network in a logical and
efficient manner. Functional classification defines the part that any particular
route should play in serving the flow of trips through a highway network.
The functional classifications are
divided in two major divisions, Rural and Urban. For this division the Federal
Aid Highway Urban (or Urbanized) Area Boundary is used to divide the route
classifications.
The Functional Classification
maps shown here were approved December 22, 1998. Revisions have been
submitted to TxDOT in August 2005 and are pending approval. For more information contact us at (361)

Southside
Mobility Corridor Map (Previously referred as South Loop) |
|
| |
|
This map was created for the sole purpose of
discussion only and is subject to change.
The South Loop Transportation Study task was
included in the Fiscal Year 1999 Unified Planning
Work Program to study the development trends to the
south of the Oso Creek and prepare planning
recommendations to reserve the right-of-way(s) based
on the findings of this study. The Corpus Christi
Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) covers 348
square miles which includes the cities of Corpus
Christi and Portland, counties of Nueces and San
Patricio. The City of Corpus Christi is growing
steadily towards the South and North West of the
city which is putting pressure on South Padre Island
Drive (SPID), IH 37, and other roadways linking
these areas to other parts of the city. The north
and east periphery of the city is surrounded by the
Nueces Bay and the Corpus Christi Bay. The major
portion of the land on the north side, between IH 37
and Nueces Bay, is occupied by the heavy industry
which leads the residential growth to the South and
North West of the city.
The
Technical Advisory Committee formed a Technical
Subcommittee comprised of the members of the MPO,
City of Corpus Christi, Nueces County, and the Texas
Department of Transportation to formulate
recommendations based on this study.

Bicycle
and Pedestrian Plan Map |
|
| |
|
This map
is a result of a study to provide the region with a plan
for creating an environment where people could choose to
bicycle or walk to their destinations and provide
recreational opportunities for walking and bicycling to
encourage a healthy and active lifestyle. The Plan would
provide guidance for the development and implementation
of an interconnected network of designated on-street
bicycle facilities as well as off-roadway trails and
sidewalks.

South
Texas Region Truck Flow Map |
|
| |
|
This map
shows the truck traffic counts in the region. The
study’s findings point to a consistent trend that
freight movements by truck are increasing in the CCMPO
area. The study was conducted in order to assist area
decision makers in developing a freight transportation
infrastructure that enhances safety, security,
efficiency, and economy within the Corpus Christi
metropolitan planning area. Funding for the study was
provided by the Texas Department of Transportation as
part of the regional Texas Metropolitan Mobility Plan
project.
This map was included in the
Executive Summary . See the complete study:
